Media Arts connects York and Viborg

Since Viborg in Denmark became a UNESCO City of Media Arts the Guild has worked with them on our common objectives as creative cities. During lockdown, for example, York schoolchildren were amazed to see their drawings of ‘Hope’ animated and projected at a massive scale in Copenhagen and Wuhan.

In 2022 funding from the Danish government and Arts Council England enabled Mediale to employ local and Danish artists to collaborate on Immersive Assembly.

Last year the Guild led a group of York companies on a visit to Viborg to explore further collaboration, especially with the amazingly talented people who work in the city’s creative centre, the Arsenalet. One of these is Critter Corner, a collective of graphic illustrators whose work is highly sought after by publishers.

Their interest in York’s Viking heritage led Thorbjørn Petersen and Ingvild Methi to find the funding to come to York during the Viking Festival, where they are going to be running Family Illustration Workshops.
